Could this be a problem as my laptop is a P4m?

Yeah they do now, well, the mail button is mapped and the others
register events within showkey

There are 4 extra buttons across the top of the keyboard of my Acer
TravelMate 650 (Email, Web, user1, user2).
Running Kubuntu Edgy Knot2 produces no events at all from these four keys.
