I get similar error when I use kdvi.
$kdvi some_file.dvi
Output I get is :
QApplication::notify: Unexpected null receiver
The kdvi works perfectly. But is there some way to remove this error ?

Rather than calling xman with parameters for MANPATH everytime, just add
the following lines to /etc/profile
MANPATH=/usr/share/man:/usr/man
export MANPATH
Once the profile file runs, you will be able to run xman in the normal way.
