We bring in Java 8 from openjdk-r. Not having supported Java 8 in
Trusty is one of our other huge gripes, and arguably the fact that it's
not integrated and tested but you have to use a PPA instead is part of
why these problems don't get found until users try to use the software

originally stated case of "ca-certificate-java should support openjdk-8"
is still totally valid. Installing this package seems to bring in java
7 even when you already have 8 installed.

We rolled out a new pip package to all our systems this morning. Since
it happened to pull in a new requests library, we now are the proud
owners of approximately 50 hosts with completely broken pip installs.

Debian Stable fixed this bug almost two years ago. I just ran into it

The lack of a openjdk8 package makes it very difficult to install any
Java packages via apt, as they all end up depending on something like
'java7-runtime-headless | java6-runtime-headless'. So you end up having
two different JDK installations just because of the lack of e.g. 'java8
