Well yesterday seemed to be a bit of a fluke... today, the most I can
seem to reproduce is occasional popping... nothing nearly as severe as
yesterday.

Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: pulseaudio
On my Asus Eee PC 900HA using Ubuntu 10.04 RC, listening to music is
nearly impossible with stuttering occurring regularly even when no other
applications are running. I'm attaching a pulseaudio log to show you
what's going on.
ProblemType:

I just installed that package, and while it seems like the stuttering is
less frequent, it's still occurring, but I've only listened to music for
a few minutes with the new alsa drivers installed... a long period of
listening may prove that the problem is still just as bad as before.
**
Yes, I can say for certain now that the stuttering is still just as bad
as before.

Seeing the same problem here with an AGP Radeon x1650. I don't know if
this will narrow anything down, but I've noticed that With Compiz
disabled, when I run Neverball it runs just fine, but when I enter the
Options menu, this bug is triggered and it becomes too slow to be
usable.

Bump is anyone out there looking at this??
As a note of interest, this same issue occurs with the x64 live CD,
however I went back and tried the alpha 5 build and the boot process was
much more successful (although there seemed to be some X initialization
issues).

This is a major problem. I work with an entire team of developers that
regularly use VirtualBox and _need_ this to be working properly... This
is really unacceptable for an LTS release that is geared toward
production environments. It's ridiculous to have to tell members of this
dev team hey,
Well, I've done several clean installs using the release ISO and the
problem is gone for the 4 systems I've installed on. I'm not saying that
it doesn't still exist, but it's not something I'm seeing any more.
