If you do not want to blacklist the ricoh_mmc driver then you can use
SUSPEND_MODULES.
Add SUSPEND_MODULES=ricoh_mmc into /etc/pm/config.d/suspend_modules
(create the file it if it does not exist)
Then the kernel will unload the module before suspending and reload the
module when resuming.

The computer will boot fine and the login screen looks fine. after log in the
desktop will have a repeating vertical line every 1 inch and hundreds of
horizontal lines with in each vertical line.

i know jockey had a problem before in ibex so i knew to update but i
reinstalled ubuntu and knew to update jockey so i could get my nvida
driver the nvidia driver was there but no wlan driver wich i need
because i am using a laptop !! help!!

all you have to do is go into package manager and update jockey it works

i just installed ubuntu 8.10 on my laptop with a nvida graphics card and
when i go to hardware drivers to install the driver for it i click
activate it ask for my sudo password then it has a progress bar that
flash really fast and stays at 0% and it still isn't activated yet
