for me.
I've created the usb pendrive with the Startup Disk Creator. I was
able to boot it and I was able to install a working system.

I've tested the Ubuntu 10.10 Alpha3 alternate i386 install iso on this
morning and it has the same bug.
The installer asked for the network mirror only. There was no option to
define a proxy server on my network. I have to use a proxy for the
Internet connections.

After this I've not seen this phenomenon again. However it's sad the kdm

I just installed gdm to check is this problem kdm related or not. I
realized gdm is not affected. So I think this behaviour is kdm related.

You don't understand the problem. You did not analyze my menu.lst file
entries carefuly. I'm going to post it here again:

Ok, I'm going to answer my qestion, because nobody did here.
So I downloaded the source:
apt-get source kubuntu-artwork-usplash
cd kubuntu-default-settings-6.10/
It takes 1 minute to realize the color settings are here:
usplash/usplash-theme-kubuntu.c
I just modified the .text_foreground

Maybe you just misunderstood me. I know Edgy use upstart, and I can see
messages in the usplash screen if I use the following boot enrties in
the menu.lst file:
itle Ubuntu, kernel 2.6.17-10-generic
root (hd0,7)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.17-10-generic root=/dev/hda8 ro splash vga=791
initrd
Yes, I have the same problem. It's not so fun to switch to TTY1, then
switch back to kdm if I want to login. This machines with Dapper works
like a charm.

Today I downloaded the kubuntu edgy alternate iso (kubuntu-
edgy-20060811). I installed server (so I choosed the install-server menu
instead of the kubuntu-desktop) on my machine. The installation went
fine.
After I finished the installation, I replace my sources.list file with
this one:
