The laptop was HP Pavilion dm1-4010us.
Took me a while to dig up the information as I don't have that laptop
anymore. Can't help with testing either, unfortunately, but would be
happy to answer any questions if I can.

For what it's worth, the laptop does go into suspend when using the menu
in the cog-shaped applet in the top panel; however when the lid is
opened the computer returns to an unlocked desktop rather than to a
password prompt.

Quick question: you say replacing the official package with one from
PPA but I am not sure exactly what you mean (I am fairly new to
ubuntu). Apart from installing the .deb and adding the ppa (sudo add-
apt-repository ppa:eugenesan/ppa)
to the internet after
install on a partition so no wireless at all so far. I've installed

Trying to install using with sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-input-
synaptics/precise-proposed but am getting error E: Release 'precise-
proposed' for 'xserver-xorg-input-synaptics' was not found.
I'd be happy to test the fix so any advice on how to actually install it
from precise-proposed
Same issue on 4,1 macbook air (11'' 2011) with up-to-date 12.04
installed from one of the daily builds. I haven't installed any
touchpad-related packages so the issue occurs with whatever module comes
by default.

Apologies for not responding earlier, took me a while to get to my
laptop.
First things first, I just upgraded to the 3.2.0-23-generic kernel
tested with both the wl and the brcmsmac drivers, the issue persists:
turning bluetooth off via the panel applet disables the wireless.
I'll test against

Here's the kernel I'm running right now:

I loaded the brcmsmac driver (in my setup it's usually blacklisted);
running lspci -k showed that the kernel driver in use was bcma-pci

I had the same issue, in fact filed a duplicate bug. Launcher and top
panel disappeared entirely. Fixed by switching to a console and
entering
unity --reset

Same as Johan Heinrichs: running beta1 12.04 and shortly after login
receive message Bluetoothd has closed unexpectedly.
In addition, trying to turn off bluetooth through the applet kills the
wireless instead for which I intend to file a separate bug.
