Same problem here. Still doesn't work on Ubuntu 7.10 kernel  2.6.22-14-generic. 
If I stop the acpi daemon and do a cat /proc/acpi/event, only the power button 
shows an action, all other keys are dead. The battery isn't detected, and 
suspend and hibernate don't work (suspend just reboots and screws up keyboard 
layout, while hibernate works in a way, but eventually hangs at starting up.
On 7.04, ACPI used to work better, though it was never perfect.
