I can confirm this behaviour also happens on my acer extensa 5620, using ubuntu 8.04. Versions of ubuntu prior to 8.04 all worked fine. Some more details - The problem seems to be irrespective of desktop environment - if I switch using ctrl-alt-f1 to a terminal screen, the delete key still
