Hm, I have just found out bug 1619307 was intentionally created as a fork of
this one. I have no idea why – the bugs really are the same. Feel free to
revert my changes and link the issues somehow.
Best,
Jan
P.S. The issue seems to be BIOS independent – I experience it on ThinkPad X230.

I upgraded from KDE 4.5 to 4.6 RC 2 (Kubuntu 10.10) and KDE splash
screen updated automatically. (KDM screen did not update, but it is
another bug - it can be switched manually.)

Today I checked it in Kubuntu 10.10 and the bug is still present there.
Steps to reproduce are still the same (just choose Czech keyboard layout
with | key). It is not present in other Czech keyboard layouts, but I
cannot confirm / disconfirm it for other languages. The bug is probably
caused by a

Oh, it seems attachment descriptions replaced names of the files - the first is
/var/log/syslog, the second /var/log/partman.
It seems it works with the other Czech layouts great.

I would also prefer KDE logo to Kubuntu logo, but I am the last one to
decide it... (I agree with Jonathan and the KDE logo, in my opinion,
fits better within other square shaped icons in the bar.)

I am sorry for the hundredpapercuts ticket, I wanted to propose this
bug into paperkuts and I messed it... If you think this is not a good
papercut bug, remove the ticket and One Hundred Paper Cuts, please.

Today I restarted X server (I did it by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Backspace in
KDE and just after that by pressing Alt+E in KDM, I do not know which
one of them took the effect) and the image on the background just before
the KDM screen was updated and looks the same as the others.
Unfortunately, I cannot
The other thing I have noticed today is the screen just before the KDM
screen is probably the same screen as the screen which occurs if you are
logged multiple times (e.g. in another terminal) and you want to
restart/shut down the computer and asks you what to do with other logged
in users (Abort
I am sorry for the confusion above, the problem remains. It only worked
for the higher resolution, I probably hadn't had the screen cached and
it looked ok, but today I tried it again with another resolution and
there were the old screens.

ksplashx default theme does not update
I have just updated KDE 4.4 RC1 to RC2 in Karmic from backport repositories and
everything seems to work properly - there is the same new screen in ksplash
after the KDM screen and even the same screen just before the KDM screen!
The only remaining problem are different resolutions (and may be
Firstly, I thought the screen which appears just before the KDM screen
in Karmic (this screen is NOT in previous versions) belongs also to
ksplash, but it does not. I still do not know how to change it. It
probably deserves a new bug.

ksplashx default theme does not update
Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace-data
When you update to a newer version of KDE (eg. from 4.3 to 4.4), KDE splash
screen does not (visually) update. This does not look very nice to a new user
to see the old splash screen, the new KDM screen and the old splash screen
I have a similar problem: When I attach (via D-Sub) display to my laptop
(GeForce 8400M GS) it switches off the desktop effects and when I switch
them on, the screen gets white. It used to work even with the effects.
