@Timo...its not invalid. Its a bug if the package to install the unity ubuntu desktop fails to produce software in a working state, because it has an invalid dependency. The ONLY reason I would have originally uninstalled the compiz-gnome would have been in-advertently, whilst my system was

ubuntu-desktop depends on unity, which depends on compiz, which depends on compiz-gnome | compiz-kde. When you remove compiz-gnome, it'll install coimpiz-kde to satisfy the dependency (something you conveniently left out). So reinstalling ubuntu-desktop doesn't pull compiz-gnome since compiz-kde
