A few minutes ago, I've successfully (and without any problems)
installed OpenShot v1.4.3-1 from their PPA (http://openshot.org/ppa/).
It seems to use libmlt5 now and doesn't conflict with kdenlive anymore.
I need to use both applications in parallel, so... :)

To me, the problem is that kdenlive depends on libmlt5, while openshot depends
on libmlt4, but libmlt5 conflicts with libmlt4.
Definitely, openshot should be updated to use the new version of libmlt.
If I'm not wrong, there is bug open in openshot with status fix committed.

it might be libmlt4, but the problem might just as well be within
OpenShot or Kdenlive
