OK, so I noticed this strange behavior where the mute button *does* work
but *only* when I press a volume button immediately after pressing mute.
So mute is working like a modifier key.

We're not entirely sure this was tested properly with older releases, so
we'd have to retest to make sure. @Daniel, can you see if it was
actually failing on Oneiric? I think we know it was failing on Natty at
least.
