I'll try again after purging the xorg-edgers ppa, but I'll have to
report one additional bug at least, because lightdm doesn't start with
weston on my laptop either. And there, I have an Intel graphics chip and
no xorg-edgers ppa.

Hmm, the logs show the xserver was
2:1.12.3+git20120709+server-1.12-branch.60e0d205-0ubuntu0ricotz, not the
one in the compositor PPA. Perhaps you have more than one PPA enabled?

Yeah xorg-edgers is definitely not to be used at the same time as the
system-compositor PPA, xserver in the system-compositor ppa using a
different branch for xwayland support which is not upstream yet.
