Hi James,
Sorry for the delay.
I chatted with Dell and they told me that there's no immediate benefit
for jumping to 0.5.0 as it just fixes some bugs for some HP servers,
plus, a naming conflict bug still exists in that release. Currently
there's no timeline for 0.5.1 yet to fix what's wrong
Hi James,
I'll double check with Dell.
0.4.1 should be stable enough to not uncover any land mines. If it is,
I'll re-do the summary to include only the changes up to 0.4.1. The
problem found in 0.5.0 centers around a naming conflict with some
Infiniband cards and that was discovered while
After some discussions with Dell as to the whereabouts of 0.5.0 on
https://linux.dell.com/biosdevname/ , it turns out that the 0.5.0
version has some issues with it that will need some more work.
So, for now, it looks like the best course of action is to stay with
getting the fixes from v0.4.1
Thanks Kent,
Can Dell confirm that we can pull these listed patches on top of 0.4.1
that we'll have a stable build? It's statements like the 0.5.0 not
working that make me a little hesitant to try this. How do we know that
the problems aren't in any of the above patches? Colin may feel the same
Hi Kent,
As far as I can see, the latest release for biosdevname is 4.1. We have
that version in raring ringtail, and the best solution is probably to
pull it in via backports.

Thanks, James. I'll try and find out what the scoop is with 0.5. If
-backports is a better way to get the updates available rather than
trying to patch the current release, then, we'll use that route for now.
