I just experienced similar problems in 8.10 Intrepid. Here is what was happening: 1) Click on the menu to launch nautilus (Places -Home Folder) 2) Nautilus launches, turns grey within 10 seconds, and consumes 90%+ cpu. Only way out is to kill the nautilus window 3) I did a reboot but still

Perhaps I had the same problem after all. I got the desktop to display but still wasn't able to open it in nautilus or in the file selector dialogue. Nautilus hung and pegged the CPU. I moved everything from my desktop to a backup directory, and moved items back one-by-one. The culprit was a
