Public bug reported:

When selecting a jpg image and launching image viewer for a fullscreen
view, the image displays for a short while (a matter of seconds) and
then ubuntu crashes:  the screen displays a rapidly scrolling series of
command lines and responses until the PC is forcibly (manually) closed
down.

(the equivalent Windows app has no problem with the image)
