Yep. It seems that if I touch the auto-created filter in any way (ie. to
change the address, destination folder, and so on), the filter breaks.

I'm waking this back up because I am experiencing this as well. For my
situation, using Thunderbird 2.0.0.21, I tried creating a filter for all
Launchpad messages to send them to another folder. I right-clicked on
the Reply-To address, but when the filter comes up, it shows From.
The filter works,
I take that back... The resultant filter does NOT work.

I can confirm this bug, it is a rather annoying little one, its tiny but
nonetheless.
John you stated you could not confirm this bug? Are you using 2.0 where
this has been fixed?

Look at the screen shot to see the filter. At the bottom of the image
you can see that it is a 'To' address. But when you create the filter it
is set to 'From' also as showed in the image. Notice that the address i
quite right - it is the Linux Audio

What version of thunderbird and what version of ubuntu are you seeing this
problem with. I am unablet o reproduce this. can you please give us an example
of a filter that it happens on?
