No, mlind, this isn't intended behaviour. Whether VGA font or not, the UTF-8 breakage as described shouldn't be happening. Running 'sudo setupcon' from a console once after each boot will work around the problem; I'm still trying to work out why it's happening in the first place. ** Changed in:

I've installed the brand new released feisty from a cd, and the problem still exist! With sudo dpkg-reconfigure console-setup i could solve it, but it's not the way for the 'average user'. With the default english locale console mc and gdm errors look unreadable a strange due to UTF8, but i
