I think this is a bug, but it might be a 'feature'. I consider it a bug,

Add \usepackage{unitsdef} to your tex file and run it throught latex.
Then:
Package unitsdef Warning: ampabbrv.cfg not found! on input line 543.
Package unitsdef Warning: freqabbr.cfg not found!
I guess this is texlive-2005?
(BTW; why do the Ubuntu Bugs NEVER NEVER NEVER tell which version is
concerned?)
Fixed upstream, texlive 2007 is in Debian/unstable. Ask Ubuntu to
update.
