Beginning with
kdenlive_0.9.3+git20121021.f24c4ea5-0ubuntu0~sunab~quantal1 from the
Sunab PPA in Raring, memory usage rises constantly during rendering.
This is enough to completely fill 8GB of ram while rendering an 11
minute video at 360x640 H264 from 1080i source files.
I rolled back the kernel from 3.7 to 3.6 to see if that was the problem,
no effect. Ffmpeg/libav(anything) has yet to change in Raring. Rolling
back libmlt5/libmlt-data/melt to the version used in Quantal from the
same PPA as of Oct 20 had no effect. Rolling back kdenlive to
kdenlive_0.9.3+git20121023.c6137d83-0ubuntu0~sunab~quantal1_amd64.deb
stopped the memory leak, keeping ram usage under 3GB for the duration of
the rendering job. Re-updated mlt, still no problem with the older
Kdenlive, ram usage stayed under 3GB
Render jobs where data was swapped out to disk (an SSD) experienced sync
issues with audio from tracks that were separate from the video files,
yielding errors of several seconds in sync for a backing music track
that began at about 2/3 of the way through the timeline.
A second memory-related issue exists as well, again only with the newest
PPA versions of Kdenlive: Segfaults when working late on a timeline
longer than 8 or 9 minutes. Most common when selecting the last clip or
zooming out, but can even happen on save. Setting one instance of
Kdenlive to render allows continuing to edit from a second instance of
kdenlive for some reason.
Test system is AMD bulldozer FX8120 at 4.4GHZ FX990, GA-990fxa-ud3
motherboard, 8GB ram, AMD Radeon HD 6750 videocard. 64 bit Ubuntu raring
OS, running from Cinnamon desktop, system SSD and 4GB raid0 hard drives
all encrypted.
