Are you sure this happen with mplayer too? I've just compiled the latest svn (35369) and -fontconfig is still working. For mplayer2, yes they removed that option some months ago, and now smplayer (from svn r4683) doesn't use -fontconfig with mplayer2. So the problem in smplayer is fixed, but
