Either a bug in plymouth, or libdrm. Thanks for finally giving me data
to back up my suspicion that renaming was a bad idea.
There are 2 possible paths forward:
- Plymouth always using the 'dumb' api, if available. This will probably need a
new version of plymouth, however, and only has been the

We got some haswell platforms here and met same issues.
It keeps showing the warning
plymouthd: intel_bufmgr_gem.c:2783: drm_intel_bufmgr_gem_init: Assertion `0'
failed.
in the log,
however there's no such code in the libdrm-ltsq2.
Track it a bit It seems that libdrm-ltsq-intel1 didn't replaced
yep, the xserver exited normally, so it's not that..

plymouth can't run because the console is still in use by an X server -
not the usual one, but the one launched by /etc/init/failsafe-x.conf
because the lightdm job exited abnormally. Maybe this is a bug in the X
server itself, or maybe it's a bug in lightdm. Reassigning.
