Hmm I suspect this problem is occurring due to presence of the virtual keyword
in your configuration file - I believe this indicates to X that you want a
desktop bigger than the screen. I would back up your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file
and then remove the Virtual 1920 1440 line you

the login screen -still- slides around. It just doesn't slide quite as
much anymore-- it stops at a closer edge. Also, notably, the
disappearing mouse problem stopped happening. Related? Who knows. But

The login screen is not static on my computer at startup or on any login
