Totem does (mostly) not display video output on external monitor
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/111606
I have a similar problem with a Kubuntu Gutsy running on a thinkpad X31
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility
M6 LY
ii xorg 1:7.2-5ubuntu13
X.Org X Window System
ii xserver-xorg
more precisely:
-it used to work with Dapper;
-the driver in xorg.conf is ati, but radeon is loaded. From
/var/log/Xorg.0.log:
(II) ATI: ATI driver wrapper (version 6.7.195) for chipsets: mach64, rage128,
radeon
(II) Primary Device is: PCI 01:00:0
(II) Loading sub module radeon
(II)
Maybe this is a duplicate of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/55646 . Please check
out the workaround.

(7500). The Ubuntu version is Feisty, the driver is ati and I use totem-
xine (I think).

I had a problem similar to this and turned out to be a permissions
issue. Something to do with the external display. Try running Totem
with sudo and see if the problem goes away. Ex. # sudo totem
(filename).

Totem-gstreamer doesn't work either. Xine-ui works when I switch to
OpenGl output also.

looks like an xv bug of the video driver then. Which one do you use?
It's likely to work if you use gstreamer-properties to change the
videosink then

gstreamer-properties is set to Autodetect. In xine I tried xv and x11
and both were not working.

Thank you for your bug. What version of Ubuntu do you use? Do you use
totem-gstreamer or totem-xine? Does it happen using gst-launch-0.10
playbin uri=file:///path/to/video? Does it happen with an another

I use Feisty + totem-xine - but I already have this problem since Edgy (I
thought it was working in Dapper - but I'm not sure anymore). Strange thing is
- I also have a Omnibook with a i830 chipset - and it's the same behaviour
there - which makes me kind of suspect that it is more xorg than
