there is a temporal way to fix Alex La hurreau problem... just type in the terminal lyx newfile.lyx it seems to happen because it crashes when it tried to load introduction.lyx. I know the solution is not pretty but it should get you working in the meantime I think is a packaging problem, and

I have seen this error with lyx version 1.5.3-1 and libqtcore4 version 4.4.0-1ubuntu5-hardy1. In my case, the error occurs when you attempt to open a file (any file). (It also, unhelpfully, tells the user to read the bug-reporting instructions in Help-Introduction, which is also a LyX file and
