Both of these work here, in the upstream mozilla.org binaries (2.0.0.4).
I'd guess this is a local problem, or a problem with the iuculano
packages.

this is a usability issue which is probably a gtk filepicker issue and
not a thunderbird one. Triagers: please verify if the filepicker in
tbird 1.5 is gtk filepicker and if so test if other gtk applications are
affected as well. If so reassign to gtk ... or add new target for gtk
package

with the latest 2.0.0.4 save as seems to work ie. filename remains as i
change folders...so that's an improvement...
but - what happens when you click on an email with more than one
attachment...then right click - choose save all and then click ok
directly...
in my case nothing
is this fixed in thunderbird 2.0 for you?

save all ok button doesnt become active until a new folder is created
and save as ok button becomes inactive if i change folder since the
filename is then erased and has to be typed in again...
