Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub-installer

When installing from the 7.04 AMD64 alternative CD, the system is left
in an unbootable state if /boot is on a seperate partition from /. This
is a common scenario for RAID, LVM, etc. The fix is to boot up in rescue
mode, mount /boot, and create a symlink using 'ln -s . boot' in /boot.
This is documented on the Wiki:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GrubHowto#head-
44a5805eeda20ec1b6bd6c274cbf3a74230675d1

As you tell the partitioner that /boot is a seperate partition, grub-
installer should be able to figure this out and create the symlink as
needed. Even if /boot is not on a seperate partition, I can't see
anything bad coming from creating the symlink, so it could just be
created in all cases.

Thanks,
