This bug still exist in 14.04. gksu-properties is well set.
The issue is unetbootin does not require a sudoer's password, but the
user's one. For example, synaptic package manager handles this properly.
See attached image: the user arno is not the current user, but the one
that has administrator
By the way, the fix released status is not true.

I got Unetbootin to work by doing the following:
Open a terminal
Type: gksu-properties
When the little GUI pops up make sure sudo is chosen, not su, as the
authentication code.
After that, all works perfectly!

Sounds like it might be an issue with gksudo. UNetbootin doesn't
implement that part. Do you encounter the same issue when launching,
say, synaptic? Does gksudo unetbootin work? how about sudo
unetbootin?
