Kubuntu 13.04 and kubuntu 13.10: the rtl8192cu module is able to connect
to the wifi modem only if the modem is very near (1-2 meters). Randomly
the connection go down like the modem was turned off (but the modem is
still stand up).

Eric, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following

This appears to be the same issue I reported in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1220007. The
upstream developer provided me a patch and firmware update, which I have
attached to the bug report.

Bugs,
Has the newest mainline kernel the solution ??? It's rather quiet here.
I'm having the same problem on Ubuntu 13.04 with kernel 3.10.09 (via
upubuntu.com).
The solution on
https://code.google.com/p/realtek-8188cus-wireless-drivers-3444749-ubuntu-1304/
doesn't work.
Should I install 3.11RC7

eric, thank you for posting this requested information. Were you able to
use the device natively, without external patching, in a release prior

Hi Christopher,
I have tested the device with a live usb on 12.04.2 without success on both
32bit and 64bit kernels.
So no it is not working out of the box for any distro from 12.04 or above at
least. The only solution is to use the patch I mentionned earlier.
After the boot it works very pourly
Here is the file attached.
Be aware that the device works almost correctly for few minutes then it doesn't
work anymore... It can then come back to life 40 minutes later for few minutes
and then it crashes again.
In my first post I gave a link to someone who had found a solution for distros
eric, could you please unplug all USB devices, plug in just the problematic USB
devices, and then immediately place the following in a terminal and attach the
results:
lsusb -v lsusb-v.log
