No Bluetooth
I have this problem on an Acer Extensa 4420 laptop with Ubuntu 8.04
(regular version, not AMD64 version). The Fn+F2 doesn't do anything no
matter how many times I choose it. On the Bluetooth button in the front
of the laptop, snapping it to the right (it's a special snap-to-the-
right springy
All the above commands thus far in this thread I have typed. None of
them print out anything about the Bluetooth. When I toggle the Bluetooth
button on the laptop and try again, I still get no Bluetooth when typing
the commands above and piping to 'grep -i bluetooth'.

No Bluetooth device
Laptops equipped with a Bluetooth controller usually are also equipped
with an indicator. This is very often a Bluetooth logo backlit with a
blue LED.
Starting with Ubuntu release 7.10, a Bluetooth icon will appear in the
notification area if a supported Bluetooth controller has been detected
and
Hi, it will probably not help to you, but i spent couple of hour to turn on my
bt adapter. Before that i had exactly the same status as above. The problem was
that my hci device was not up. I fix it with
$ sudo hciconfig hciX up #where hci0 .. first dongle, hci1 .. second dongle
Now it works
I have this same problem with Gutsy of today. I have a Dell X300 laptop which
has integrated Bluetooth
device. In Feisty I got a pop-up when starting KDE that mentioned something
about Bluetooth being enabled.
After upgrading to Gutsy, it does not appear anymore.

You received this bug
I cannot see any Bluetooth devices is the output.
One thing you could do:
1. run lsusb
2. press the Bluetooth button
3. run lsusb and compare with the output above.
If it changes (something that looks like a Bluetooth device) then try
running hcitool dev and hcitool scan again.
If not then I am
I''v a build in BLuetooth chip. So the lsusb command isn't the right one
I think, because a build in Bluetooth chip isn't a usb device. But maybe
I'm wrong.
I did your steps, there was no difference between the two outputs. And
hcitool dev and scan gave the same output: no devices.
When I press
1. Do you have some keyboard button to enable bluetooth?
2. What is the output of:
#---
hcitool dev
#---
3. Please attach the file /var/log/messages.
