I don't know, because I've taken the opportunity to switch permanently
to Debian and don't have an installation of Ubuntu remaining.

I've built a kernel for feisty from Debian's 2.6.21 sources that works
beautifully. Here it is for anyone who needs it.

Brilliant, I've built a 2.6.20 kernel from gentoo's sources that doesnt
have powernow either. Maybe i could build a 2.6.21 kernel for ubuntu,
though shouldnt the debian testing kernel work in ubuntu?

Thanks for your hint!
Do you know how to install this kernel on Feisty Fawn? It doesn't seem to be in
default repositories.
However, I'll try it again with Debian, hopefully it will work there.

No, it doesn't work on Debian, too. There, powernow-k8 refuses to load
with the message that there is No such device. Doesn't sound better
than with Feisty.

And now the final part of my investigation: seems to work on Knoppix!
That's great, as it proves it isn't caused by my notebooks hardware, but
how could I now find out what to change in Ubuntu to get it working
there too?

I have a similar laptop with a Turion64 X2. I think that the problem is
not with powernowd, but with the smp kernel. I read on the forums that
someone used the 2.6.15 smp kernel fine with scaling.
