Here's a new twist... I had previously been unable to properly play ANY video
file of any type (including the attached example) using both versions of
mplayer you mention... so this issue did exist in the previous version as well.
Replacing the ubuntu mplayer package with mplayer
I am having the same problem with mplayer 2:1.0~rc1-0ubuntu9.1. The
-0ubuntu9.0 package (which I was using until yesterday) worked fine.
