Alternatively, upgrade to 13.04 (most recent interim) and use the
command in Terminal:
sudo apt-get purge gnome-disk-utility
and then install the older package here (and make sure the Software
Updater doesn't update it again): http://pkgs.org/ubuntu-12.04/ubuntu-

Ubuntu 11.10 is no longer supported and probably doesn't recognise 12.10
because 12.10 is too new. They wouldn't fix the bug because of the 11.10
End of Life. If you don't like the 12.10 Disk Utility, you could
