I see this bug's quite old, but I can confirm it on Ubuntu 14.04.
After linking '~/.local/share/Trash/files' to '~/trash:' I get directed to the
correct directory
BUT I'm missing the special context menu entrie(s) like "Restore".
When opening Trash via "thunar trash://" from CLI I get the

If I open trash:/// in Nautilus and keep it open in a separate window, the
trash icon on the launcher works. However, the moment I close trash:/// in
Nautilus, the launcher's trash icon stop working.

I found a workaround but not a fix:
Create a link in home directory called trash:, pointing to
.local/share/Trash.

I'm not sure what environment creates this scenario, so I cannot list
steps to reproduce. But once you see this bug, it affects the Recycle
Bin every time a file is placed in

About couple of days ago I started getting error Failed to open trash: when
I tried to open trash from sidebar. If I open Nautilus/Thunar and choose Trash
