In Kicad:
Go in main menu to Preferences->PDF Viewer->Set PDF Viewer.
Then select your favorite viewer

The only thing that helped me on Kubuntu 15.04 was removing
aplication/pdf from gimp.desktop.

I installed latest version from bzr and the documentation also opened
with gimp for me. After doing:
mimeopen -d
and setting it to evince it opens with okular. I'm on ubuntu 14.04.

Found a possible solution to this on a related webpage. Open a command
line and type
mimeopen -d
Choose evince or your preferred pdf viewer as the default. Should reset
the defaults, but recommend closing kicad and restarting. This worked
for me on Ubuntu 13.10.
