In my case, the bug was not in f-spot - it was related to glx and the
PROPRIETARY graphic card driver. When I connected a second monitor to the
notebook with an ati graphic card, glx did not start - even the fgl_glxgears
did not work. When I disconnected the second monitor, glx was working and
I have exactly the same error. I had it several months ago, and after a
reinstall, it still remains.
There are no error messages on the cli.
When I remove the complete '/$HOME/.gnome2/f-spot' folder, I get one (probably
unrelated) error:
'WARNING: The add-in 'FSpot.__DefaultExporters,1.6' is try

when I start f-spot with --debug option, I get:

I have to confirm the initial problem also under Xubuntu 8.04 and F-Spot
0.4.3.1.
Started from console, I get:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ f-spot
WARNING: The add-in 'FSpot.__DefaultExporters,1.6' is trying to extend
'/FSpot/Menus/Exports', but there isn't any compatible add-in defining this
extension
Correction: the command to delete the file should be "rm
~/.gnome2/f-spot/photos.db"
Sorry for the typo

Could you check if
https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/f-spot/+bug/81905/comments/13
solves your problem?
If "sqlite ~/.gnome2/f-spot/photos.db" complains of some error, could
you try to delete it("sudo ~/.gnome2/f-spot/photos.db")? (All previous
data on photos will be lost)
