A similar workaround is to run e.g.
UBUNTU_MENUPROXY=0 gimp
instead of gimp etc. if you like the appmenu and only want to disable it on
particular applications that give trouble.

Hello, would like to share the workaround I applied, it works smoothly!
Just a workaround though: disable the global menu, so that each application
having its own menu bar.
sudo apt-get remove indicator-appmenu

I found that with Libreoffice if I changed something, opened the menu,
save and undo were greyed out. If I moved away from the menu and then
went back to it, save and undo were now available.
Further, the shortcut underlines do not appear in the menu. This is a
source of considerable grief to

since the non-unity standard LO doesn't seem to have a problem.
