Yes its a Ubuntu Desktop 10.04 Lucid Lynx (Alternative)
The oss-linux 0:4.2-2008 is from http://www.opensound.com/ 4Front Technologies
- they still support the Lynx One audio card with their oss development.
attached is the apt-cache as requested.

thanks for you feedback.
You cann't mix ubuntu and foreign packages with the same content.
If you want use the ubuntu-package please
save the oss setup,
sudo apt-get purge oss-linux
and reinstall the ubuntu oss4 packages.
But it is better to upgrade the system because is 10:04 no

The newer ubuntu dont even recognise the soundcard and dont support it.
That was my reason for using the older LTS.
I will follow your advice and see what I can achieve with the Lynx One card.

The oss4 does not support the functionality of the LynxOne audio card.
oss from OpenSound 4Front Technologies does support the card.
And (as I am sure you know) the move is more towards alsa architechture in
Ubuntu - so all the newer versions os ubuntu are
