I am using a 64 bit version of Ubuntu 14.04 and the installation of
amd64 version of .deb file returns an error that the installation
failed.

There is proper fix released, so you should not use these deb's anymore.
I deleted them!

Installing the .deb from post #10 solved this issue for me. I tested it
before and after several times on two computers.

Can't type my password after cold boot

Robert, seems that problem is in focus_upon_map function. Could not be
that focus is moved to wrong window? When this bug happens it is not
possible to select users using arrow keys too. This makes me think that
focus is on wrong window.
Also is that function realy needed? After I removed

Cannot type password until I have clicked something else
To
I have just installed the 64 bit version of your new unity-greeter and
it has overcome the typing of password problem.
It has added a minor display problem for a second or two after typing
password and hitting enter, with the screen showing a random pattern
instead of the greeter background image
Having repeatedly restarted my VirtualBox installation of Ubuntu 64bit with the
new unity-greeter package installed from post 10 above, the graphic problem
seems to have now disappeared completely, and typing the password is still
possible.
This would seem to be a solution to the problem for
