This sounds connected to a bug with Gnome which I reported a while back.
Your main screen is prob the one with mythtv running on, and your prob
working on the 2nd screen. The problem is the xscreensaver and standby
stuff seems to only work with the first screen. Try swapping them
around, or

I made an error when posting this.
It happens regardless of whether or not MythTV is running.
After a little bit of further reading, it is now my understanding that
when you have dual monitors, it causes Gnome to run two instances (one
for each monitor). It would seem that since it is running
