My Gnome terminal also has a solid background on launch, and only by
either tweaking settings or using the Help -> About workaround will
bring the transparency back. Has been driving me crazy for a few
releases now. :(

using numix gnome theme and enabled dark theme in prferences.
The transparency is not active.
However for the current terminal window it can be acticated, if I

I have the same problem.
I read that the developers had removed transparency, but I imagine ubuntu team
search a workaround to see transparency on terminal.
When I select about from the menĂº help I will see transparency. It's strange.
I hope to solve this problem, becouse I working with

In Terminal if you select Help and About you will see Transpancy working
as expected. Close the About dialogue box and transparency fade back to
solid black.

some other component has changed since then, thus breaking transparency
