The 18 month support period for Gutsy Gibbon 7.10 has reached its end of life -
http://www.ubuntu.com/news/ubuntu-7.10-eol . As a result, we are closing the
linux-source-2.6.22 kernel task. It would be helpful if you could test the
new Jaunty Jackalope 9.04 release and confirm if this issue

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.
There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

I've done some testing with the Intrepid Alpha3 Live-cd and with the
most recent Hardy kernel.

Sometimes when booting from a complete poweroff the noise exists. It might

When I booted the livecd I couldn't hear the noise but after a

It unfortunately appears that this bug is not yet resolved. Does this
issue still exist in the Hardy Heron 8.04 LTS release? If so, the
Intrepid Ibex 8.10 Alpha2 is also scheduled for release today. It will
appear at the following when available:
http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/intrepid/alpha2 .
This has recently reappeared when I reinstalled kubuntu on my laptop and
installed the amd64 version of Hardy. I know this is a really tricky
kind of bug to hunt down, but I'm willing to try any fix or work-around
you might come up with, the only working fix I know of is to do a
modprobe -r
This is strange, it seems now that this noise appears every time i power
on the laptop, not only when resuming from hibernate. I was quite sure
that this only appeared after a resume before, but now I'm considering
running memtest86 on my brain to see if there is something wrong with my
memory.

Unfortunately it seems I was a bit too quick there, the noise has now
returned, after 3 suspend/resume cycles. The previous 2 cycles did not cause
this noise.
I'll attach the dmesg output for all three cycles.
