I confirm the bug and the previous workaround did NOT solve the problem:
sudo apt-get purge php5-mcrypt sudo apt-get install php5-mcrypt does
not resolve this issue.
This does solved it:
Check if mcrypt is not enabled:
root@prod:/etc/php5/mods-available# php -m | grep mcrypt
Symlinks to the
Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.
