On my system helps this:
dpkg --print-foreign-architectures
it returns:
i386
i38
then delete wrong i38 architecture:
dpkg --remove-architecture i38

Same her in saucy 13.10. For me that is rather severe, because due to an
other bug (#1104476) and lack of an ethernet card in my laptop I can
only connect to the internet when WPA is turned off in the AP. As
#1104476 will not be fixed any more in 13.10, an upgrade is really
necessary.
