looks like compiz is disabled on all laptops using the -ati driver, too.
is there a list of devices availible, which should run compiz ?
this would help to determine if this is a bug or a feature.

Desktop effects could not be enabled on 8.04
.xsession-errors says that for my system is no composite-enabled graphics
device driver availible
this is no problem for me, but I be amazed that composite is not working
on ati card with open source driver
