If I disable desktop effects, I have no crashes with glxgears.
But if I enable desktop effects and take glxgears, X crash. Then, when I
restart X, I always have desktop effect enable. I take once again
glxgears. X don't crash but in the windows it's black (i have no gears).

The moment you manually install the NVIDIA drivers on Ubuntu your support
options change and a degree of care needs to be taken to ensure existing
drivers do not interfere. Your issue sounds like it might be a library issue

Hmm, after doing some checking I think that the 7500LE uses the G72 chipset and
thus may not be helped by the fix in the aforementioned link (supposedly the
fix is for G73 cards). Unfortunately your card is not listed on

For the moment, I use the Ubuntu packaged.
Now with the latest compiz 0.5.2+git20070827, I have no white screen when I am
on Normal Effect (or Extra effect) and take No effect!

Note: I have no white screen but my computer freeze few time with the ubuntu
packaged.
I tested the Nvidia binaries driver with the patch
(http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=1325093postcount=100) , my
computer haven't freeze but glxgears crash X.
