Fair enough. So, I fixed this in the redesign by adding a Hide
password checkbox below. The checkbox exists not so much to be used, as
to notify+reassure people that revealing the password is expected
default behavior.

That's an excellent point. Is there another term we could use, then,
instead of password? Notwithstanding the trend towards revealed
passwords in mobile interfaces generally

The issue is it is called password where the users will find the
information from the carrier so I'd think we need to conform to the
unfortunate naming
