You can easily restore and use the classic tray icon which is provided by xfce4-power-manager. Do not forget to remove the indicator-power package. Since indicator-power is maintained by the Ubuntu Desktop developers, I am not sure if they are willing to change its behavior/functionality to mimic

There are two different battery indicators available: 1) Xfce Power Manager tray icon (hidden) 2) indicator-power (default since 14.04) Which one is shown in your panel? The classic power manager tray icon can be toggled via xfce4-power-manager-settings General System tray icon. -- You
