Just a thought. When I upgrade hal on my T61p, kde-guidance-powermanager
looses the connection to the battery, and stops displaying battery
information. Could something similar happen for the brightness levels
after a hal upgrade?

Since there was a hal update today, I tried to see if it affected the
powermanager in anyway, and that doesn't seem to be the case. So please

It looks like your system is reporting strange numbers for number of
brightness levels. In first screen-shot (and attached lshal output), you
can see that there is only *one* level reported, while second screen
shot shows very large number of brightness levels. I would suspect this
is problem of yo
